The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as it is known in many of the countries that it is exported into such as; South Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America. It is Toyotas nameplate for their light duty, four wheel drive mid sized trucks. They have also been a popular export to the Caribbean and other parts of Africa. The current version of the Prado is based on Toyotas J120 platform. Some of the previously produced models were produced on the J70 and J90 platforms. All the versions of the Toyotas Prado included an independent suspension with a ladder frame construction, as well as a two speed transfer case.
The Prado comes in a GX, GXL and a VX models and can have either a shorter or longer wheel base, depending on the version. The basic Prado model was the GX. This is considered the entry level, while the VX model would be the luxury version. Toyota offered a 4.0 L petrol V6, as well as 3.o L Diesel engine.
The first generation of the Prado was introduced in 1984, with a 70 series designation. It came with the option of a soft top, and was only produced with a short body style.
